Objectives:
- To
measure the amount of lead in soil in the El Paso-Juarez region
so that the community may know of areas where children might
be at risk of exposure.
- To
identify indoor sources and amount of lead in selected households
in El Paso and Cd. Juarez.
- To
measure the amount of lead in the blood of selected children
so that researchers can estimate recent exposure to lead in
El Paso and Cd. Juarez.
- To
measure the amount of lead stored in the bone of selected children
so that researchers can also estimate long-term exposure to
lead.
- To
include the binational community through involvement of community-based
organizations, students, parents, health and environmental agencies,
and others.
- To
facilitate the use of the results by the community for the direct
benefit of the binational community.
- To
promote the capacity of health care providers, parents, and
community groups to address environmental health issues through
skill-building, education, and scientific learning.
